Altas Quintas Colheita 2005 has been awarded the trophy for best red wine by Confraria dos Enófilos do Alentejo at the 4th edition of the Alentejo Bottled Wine Contest.
Sponsored by Évora City Council, the event was held at Hotel Convento do Espinheiro as part of the Rota de Sabores Tradicionais gastronomic festival. 75 wine tasters were on hand to sample and judge about 120 different wines.
The Alentejo Bottled Wine Contest has been staged every three years since 1998 as both a showcase and recognition of the best bottled wines in this region of southern Portugal.
The event is notable for its strict adherence to blind tasting in order to ensure impartial judgment. Tasters included both local wine experts and regular consumers alike.
